Testa Center celebrates 5 years
In August 2018, the bioprocess facility Testa Center was officially opened at what was then GE Healthcare’s facility in Uppsala. Breaking the isolation of Ukrainian university teachers
During the spring, around 80 Ukrainian university teachers have had the chance to take a course on online teaching and learning from Uppsala University. Important information affecting all employees: the University change bank for salary payments
In September, the University will be changing the bank it uses for salary payments – from Nordea to Danske Bank. Consequently, in order to receive their pay without delay, all employees on the University’s payroll need to register the bank account into which their salary should be paid in good time.

On 1 July 2023, a new Biobank Act(2023:38) will enter into force, replacing the current Biobank Act (2002:297).

Work is now under way in collaboration with Akademiska Hus.

Cheap sustainability-lunches are blazing a trail towards less food waste and a greater sense of community
Last year a new initiative was started on Gotland with the aim of reducing food waste and at the same time increasing the availability of sustainable, good-value food. Every week cheap lunches are served that are made with ingredients from local supermarkets that otherwise would have gone to waste. The project has received funding from the University's climate pot and has attracted new visitors to the student union.
Lower carbon footprint compared to 2019
Each year, public authorities must report on their environmental management efforts. The report for 2022 shows that energy consumption fell and that the climate impact of business travel was 44 percent lower than the 2019 figure.
Inventory of research infrastructure needs
It is now time to begin the University’s internal inventory of the research infrastructure needs of national interest ahead of the Swedish Research Council’s call for grants in 2025.

Microsoft has discovered an unusually severe security flaw related to email management, specifically regarding the Outlook email client. The University is working to quickly resolve the problem. However, all employees need to make sure to update their own computer.
First Attractive Innovation Projects of the year
Barely one quarter into 2023 and five projects have been awarded the Attractive Innovation Project Award by UU Innovation after significant progress on the path from idea to innovation. Better protection against IT attacks

Forestry without clear-felling in part of the area

Risk of denial-of-service attacks
The websites of several Swedish public authorities have been brought down by denial-of-service attacks recently. It may be wise to mentally prepare for the idea that such attacks could also affect Uppsala University.

Support is available for researchers who need to assess their research in relation to the EU Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) Regulation. The names given to the clouds, an important part of the university's history
The book “Molnspanare– en meteorologisk historia” (Cloud spotters – a meteorological history) tells of the emergence of meteorology as a scientific subject. Among other things, you can read about how the Latin names and classification of the clouds were decided at a conference in the University Building in Uppsala, including Cirro-cumulus and Nimbus.

“Zoom with a PhD student in biology” is a model for engaging with school students and teachers. The model has been taken up at the Swedish Centre for School Biology for engagement with upper secondary schools, and the results are promising.

There is now a general page where you can apply for open, online courses to develop skills relating to the climate transition. The courses are part of the Öppet för klimatet (Open to the Climate) project, which has been established by the government as part of its climate upskilling initiative.

The University has a new Environmental Plan. The ambition is for the University to be climate-neutral by 2045. An intermediate goal is to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

Not a single higher education institution fulfils the Discrimination Act, according to a new report from the Equality Ombudsman. “The report contains recommendations and advice that offer inspiration for change,” notes Åsa Cajander, Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Equal Opportunities.

Many accounts suspended due to fraud
The number of employees tricked into clicking on links as part of fraud attempts via email and SMS has increased. As a result, the number of accounts being suspended to minimise the damage has also risen. Employees whose accounts have been suspended must then request an activation code.

Calendar created from winning weather images
