2023-09-22Each year, Uppsala University awards prizes, awards and medals to those who have furthered research, education or development att Uppsala University. In 2023, this will be done with pomp on 9 October when the University celebrates its birthday (namely, its 546th).
Please note that this year's celebrations will take place on 9 October.
Normally, the University celebrates its birthday on 7 October as teaching began on 7 October 1477. The formal decision was made by the Pope in Rome on 27 February 1477. The decision arrived in Strängnäs on 2 July, and finally reached Uppsala on 21 September 1477. Just over two weeks later, teaching could begin.
