Frequently asked questions about printing and scanning

Frequently asked questions

Quick links:

  • How do I pay for my print-outs?
  • Where can I buy printing vouchers?
  • What do I do if the printer has run out of paper?
  • How large documents / how many pages can I scan?
  • What is ‘scanning directly to cloud storage’?

How do I pay for my print-outs?

If you are a student or a visitor you need to top up your eduPrint account with money before printing or copying. You do this in the eduPrint portal either by following the link "Add Credit" in the left menu, or by following the link "Redeem Card" to redeem a printing voucher that you have bought. Employees MUST NOT add money themselves.

Students reach the eduPrint portal by this link and visitors by this one.

Where can I buy printing vouchers?

The printing vouchers are sold at the reception desks / service centers at BMC, Blåsenhus, Carolina Rediviva, Ekonomikum, Engelska parken, The Segerstedt Building and Ångström. The vouchers are sold in denominations of 20 SEK, 50 SEK, 100 SEK and 200 SEK. Please note that not all receptions / service centers may not sell vouchersof all denominations.

What do I do if the printer has run out of paper?

Paper is refilled by a service partner according to a schedule based on expected consumption for every printer. If the printer runs out of paper, you can refill it yourself if there is extra paper available by the printer. If there is no extra paper available, please contact the local campus management who is responsible for paper handling between the refills.

How large documents / how many pages can I scan?

The size of documents that are possible to scan to e-mail is limited by the size of e-mails that the University's mail servers can receive. The limit at Uppsala University is 40MB. The page amount of 40MB is not possible to determine as it is dependent on what the documents contains such as pictures, chosen resolution when scanning etc.

If there are many pages to scan, one option may be to scan to any of the other services, folders or cloud storage, as these services have no file size limit.

What is ‘scanning directly to cloud storage’?

Using cloud storage scanning, you can send scanned documents directly to a cloud storage service from the printer. Initially, the only service supported for employees is Box.com (Sunet Box), but the services supported may change in the future.

When scanning to the cloud, keep in mind what information may and should be stored there. This varies depending on your role and the cloud service you are using. If you are unsure, contact the IT Service Desk.
