How to use the VPN service at Uppsala University
For employees at the University who need to work remotely or access University services while travelling, it is possible to connect to the University network via VPN (virtual private network). To use the VPN service you need your Uppsala University user ID and password A.
Students do not have the opportunity to use the service.
PLEASE NOTE: Most of the University's IT systems – such as Zoom, Medarbetarportalen, myfiles.uu.se – are accessible to use remotely without a VPN connection. However, some systems require a VPN connection for access outside the university premises. The most common systems are listed below. If you are not sure if you can access a digital service from home, try it first without using a VPN connection (to avoid overloading the VPN system).
Systems that require VPN for working at home:
- The eduPrint printing system
- The Financial administration system Raindance
- Infoglue (starting 11 May 2022)
- The system for publishing on digital screens (Diskus)
- Administration of and access to certain cloud and storage systems (eg Argos, Polacksbacken's cloud service, etc.)
- Primula client – system for Payroll and HR administration
- GLIS
- W3D3 (Document Registration)

Application for VPN service for administrative systems
If you are going to use the university's administrative system via the VPN service, your head of department or equivalent must send a notification for you to the IT Support .
Basic requirements for use of the VPN service
- To get access to VPN you need to have IT charge Employee maxi or midi or Other active maxi (see levels of IT charge).
- The computer must be equipped with firewall and virus protection and preferably also with spyware protection.
- The computer must be continuously updated with security patches, preferably automatically.
- The computer must be generally installed in a safe manner, including good password.
- VPN service may not be used by persons other than the account holder
Expanded requirements for the use of administrative systems via VPN service
- The computer must be a staff computer and should be installed by the department's/equivalent regular IT staff.
- The computer may not be used by persons other than the account holder
Installing VPN Cisco
The program that you are using is called Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client. It should be installed on your computer otherwise you install it from Software Center (Windows) or Self Service (Mac).
If you cannot find Cisco AnyConnect VPN on your computer or if your computer is not enrolled in client management, you can install the program by following the instructions below:
- Go to https://vpn.uu.se.
- Fill in USERNAME: your user identity at Uppsala University.
- Type in your PASSWORD: your password A.
- Click on Login.
- Download the recommended installation file and install the software.
Configuration and connection
- Start the program and enter the server address: vpn.uu.se
- Write in the field USERNAME: your user identity at Uppsala University.
- Type in your PASSWORD: your password A.
Verify that VPN is active
Go to http://www.visaminip.com/
