There are lots of exciting things happening with our programmes at the Faculty of Medicine. This autumn term, we started two new Master’s programmes. The Master’s Programme in Biomedical Laboratory Science will hopefully lead to, among other things, a secure supply of teachers for the Biomedical Laboratory Science Programme in the long run. The Master’s Programme in Implementation, Transformative Learning and Sustainability is unique in that it is delivered entirely by distance learning except for a short period at the beginning and end of the programme, respectively.

New skills for healthcare

In autumn 2023, a Master’s Programme in Precision Medicine will start, which we hope will provide the healthcare sector with the expertise on how to analyse large-scale biological data to diagnose patients and enable more personalised treatment. Very exciting.

We’re also in the early stages of launching a new nursing programme in occupational therapy. The programme has been requested by both Region Uppsala and Uppsala Municipality, where the shortage of occupational therapists is severe. The plan is to start in the autumn of ’24. Thank you, Maria Borgestig, for a splendid job with the application to UKÄ and constructing the programme.

Strong pedagogical support at Medfarm

The pedagogical support at Medfarm has taken a leap. For many years the Medicine Programme had its own pedagogical support. Then MedfarmDoIT was added. Later, PRåM started. Most recently, an educational developer, Karin Björklund, joined. Now they all work together in a pedagogical node. We now have robust pedagogical support at Medfarm. The next step is pedagogical research in our programmes. Yes!

Lifelong learning (LLL) is on the lips of many. A government decision says higher education institutions should offer courses that support LLL. It is about brushing up on old knowledge and broadening or deepening it. A lot will happen in this regard in the future.

I’d like to say a big and warm thank you to all teachers, Lotta and Amelie at the Medfarm office, and everybody else who contributes to us having such fantastic education at the Faculty of Medicine. A special thank you to my vice-dean colleague Anja Sandström at Farm, for an excellent and pleasant collaboration.

Finally, I’d like to wish all of you at Medfarm a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
