The experimental classroom is available to all teachers
Teaching in the experimental classroom can be a springboard for renewing your course and developing your skills as a teacher. Here you can test how new technology and flexible furniture arrangements can affect teaching, for instance.
Educational developers can help you to get started and give you advice on technologies and teaching when you bring your class to the room.
Conditions
All teachers at Uppsala University are welcome to teach in the experimental classroom if:
- the teaching is part of University operations.
- there are innovations in the course compared with previous teaching. Teachers are welcome to return on the condition that they are renewing their methods and testing new teaching concepts, new technology, and the like.
Documentation
All teaching done in the experimental classroom is documented by educational developers, so that:
- teachers will benefit as much as possible from their teaching in the room. It is often difficult to grasp everything that happens in a large room, especially if you are busy teaching. Since the whole point of being in the experimental classroom is to see how instruction is affected, it is a good support to have educational developers on hand.
- experience and knowledge can be gathered about how the experimental classroom is used, which can then be disseminated to inspire others and provide a basis for continued/future efforts and research. Educational developers contributes questions to the students’ course evaluation or, alternatively, poses clicker questions at the end of each teaching session.
