Waste management at the University
Guidelines for waste management
Uppsala University has guidelines for waste management (in Swedish), specifying the 20 or so fractions to sort waste into. These guidelines, adopted by the Vice-Chancellor at central level, are implemented in local guidelines in the campus area and at the department or equivalent concerned.
Specification of waste routines
The requirements applying to departments, the Campus Management, the Cleaning Unit, property owners, along with the people responsible for various parts of the system of waste management, are listed in a separate specification (in Swedish).
Purchase of bins for sorting at source
Departments and sections are responsible for purchasing their own waste bins for sorting at source. The University has not procured a supplier of its own; instead, it bases its purchasing on the state framework agreement. Consult the list of suppliers (in Swedish). If you have any queries on how to send inquiries to these suppliers, or other issues relating to purchasing or procurement, contact the Procurement and Purchase Office.
Hazardous waste
For waste classified by law as ‘hazardous’, such as chemical waste (in Swedish) and electronic waste, there are special instructions on disposal procedure.
