Purchasing and procurement
Uppsala University buys goods and services worth around SEK 2 billion each year. We can significantly cut climate impacts by including environmental requirements centrally in relevant procurements. However, to reduce the University’s environmental and climate footprint, we also need to implement environmental requirements in the purchases made at local level in the University. Read more below about environmental requirements in purchasing and procurement and the support available to help you make greener purchases.
Make purchases under the agreements
All purchases must be made under the agreements currently in effect. You can find the University’s framework agreements in the contract database.
Environmental requirements in purchases under framework agreements
Including environmental requirements in a framework agreement does not mean that all goods under that agreement are automatically environmentally friendly and it is often possible to find environmentally better products under the existing agreement. Use the tips on this page or contact the central environmental office by email at miljo@uadm.uu.se for advice and support.
Ecolabels and guidance
An ecolabel can be helpful if you are uncertain whether or not a product is green. The Swedish Consumer Agency has a good guide to ecolabels and how they can help you choose among products (in Swedish). The Staff Portal also offers guidance on a number of different types of products to help you make greener purchases. We recommend using ecolabels and our own guidance in combination when purchasing from the university´s framework agreements. A good deal of useful information about green procurement is available from the National Agency for Public Procurement.
