Information to UK citizens
If there is no agreement at the UK's exit from the EU, there will be a so-called hard brexit.
The Swedish government has presented proposed regulations on transitional arrangements in the case of a hard brexit. Under the transitional arrangements, no UK citizens will have to leave Sweden. They will be able to apply for new permits while continuing to live and work here. Read more about brexit on the Swedish Migration Agency website.
UK citizens who are already employed
After a potentially hard brexit, UK citizens will need to apply for a residence permit. However, under the transitional rules, no UK citizens will have to leave Sweden. They will be able to apply for a new permit while continuing to live and work in Sweden.
Starting employment after a potential hard brexit
UK citizens who begin their employment after a potential hard brexit will need to apply for a work/residence permit. The exact procedures for this are still unclear. We will update the information as soon as we can.
