VICE-CHANCELLOR CALLS ON DEPARTMENTS/EQUIVALENT TO SAVE ELECTRICITY

The government has recently instructed public authorities to save electricity. Consequently, the Vice-Chancellor has asked the Buildings Division to draw up a proposed action plan in cooperation with the facilities managements, disciplinary domains and property owners. The measures that are being investigated include reduced lighting hours, turning lights off at night, switching to LED light bulbs, which save 40–60 per cent energy, adjusting the time when ventilation is in operation and slightly lowering indoor temperatures. FURTHER SUPPORT FOR SCHOLARS FROM UKRAINE

The Vice-Chancellor has taken a new decision to allocate a further SEK 3 million for scholarships for researchers from Ukraine.

  • To support efforts for scholars at risk, the Vice-Chancellor decided in April 2022 to approve funding for scholarships to give researchers who have left Ukraine a refuge and an opportunity to work in a research environment at Uppsala University. A total of SEK 3 million was allocated for scholarships for researchers from Ukraine. The funding paid for 20 scholarships. Further information: HR generalist Jennifer.Holst@uu.se

PRINCIPLES FOR INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RATES IN THE UNIVERSITY MAIN BUILDING

Two price lists are used for University Main Building rentals, depending on whether the renter is classified as an internal or an external client. To facilitate bookings and improve financial predictability, the Vice-Chancellor has taken a decision to clarify the classification of clients as internal or external (UFV 2022/2057).

  • Internal clients are limited to those that have Uppsala University’s corporate identity number (202100–2932) and book using a nine-digit project code. The rental waiver that has been in effect for internal clients will end at the end of the year. All other renters are regarded as external clients and will therefore be charged at the external rate.
  • Exemptions from the principle governing the classification of clients as internal or external will only be made for students’ unions (internal rate applies), Uppsala University of the Third Age (internal rate applies) and degree ceremonies (Grand Auditorium free of charge, other parts of the building charged at the internal rate). UPPSALA UNIVERSITY LIBRARY CHANGING SEARCH AND LOAN SYSTEM

The University Library is changing its search and loan system on 1 November, which is affecting some library services. For example, during the month of October it is not possible to request interlibrary loans. The form on the library’s website and the Libris loan request service are temporarily closed. The libraries at the University will be open as usual during this period. The search engine on the library website is available for searches for material and for access to electronic resources.

IT SECURITY THEME FOR TOUR

During October, the University’s information security coordinators are visiting certain campus areas. The coordinators provide support and training in security issues and will use the tour to convey information on secure storage solutions and data sharing services, and how staff can protect themselves against the most common types of cyber attacks such as phishing, ransomware and malware.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY CLEANING

Recycling points rather than wastepaper baskets and water instead of cleaning agents. In the last few years, Uppsala University’s cleaning service has worked hard to make cleaning more environmentally friendly. Uppsala University is one of a handful of higher education institutions in Sweden with Nordic Ecolabel certified cleaning services. No less than 95 per cent of the consumable items used by the cleaning service are ecolabelled. The use of chemicals has been reduced almost to zero.

BOOK TRAVEL ONLINE

For some time now, there have been delays at Lingmerths, the University’s contracted supplier of travel agency services. To facilitate bookings, if you are planning a business trip the University’s travel manager currently recommends clients at departments/equivalent to log in to the self-booking system and order the trip themselves. For local business travel, anyone booking a trip is recommended to link their private SJ Prio account to the University’s client number. You can also order tickets from other suppliers via SJ’s online service. The travel manager also recommends departments/equivalent to order SL/UL corporate cards for staff to borrow and to appoint someone responsible for administering these cards. Always avoid private outlays when travelling on business.
