The University has five strategic partnerships with businesses, research institutes and local and regional authorities. The partnership with Uppsala Municipality is focused on sustainable community-building. The partnership with Uppsala Municipality will be holding an information seminar on 5 December 2022.

Among other things, the invitation states that “Urban development in Uppsala generates new challenges that the municipality is keen to address together with the University. As a researcher, this means that you have the opportunity to collaborate with the municipality and other external partners in order to understand the needs and establish how your research in particular can be used and developed through co-creation with others”.

We contacted Esbjörn Larsson, who is responsible for the partnership with Uppsala Municipality at the University, to find out more about the seminar.

What is the purpose of the seminar “How Can Research Contribute to Tomorrow’s Uppsala?”, which will be held on 5 December 2022?

“The purpose is to create contacts so that in future we can apply for funding in collaboration with Uppsala Municipality.”

Why should researchers commit to this seminar and the partnership with Uppsala Municipality?

“It offers a unique opportunity to conduct research in collaboration with the surrounding community and contribute to the development of Uppsala over the coming decades.”

Which research areas do you expect to be involved?

“Researchers from all three disciplinary research domains have the opportunity to contribute.”

What will be the next step after the seminar?

“Based on the municipality’s presentation at the seminar on 5 December, during the spring of 2023, participating researchers will have the opportunity to present proposals for research projects to representatives of the municipality.”

Is there funding linked to the partnership that researchers can apply for?

“There is no separate funding allocated to the partnership for research. There is however the possibility of applying for funding to initiate collaboration from Verification for Collaboration (VFS) [see link below, ed.]. That said, the main aim is to provide opportunities to create research projects that can obtain external funding.”
