PLOS was formed almost 20 years ago after an appeal from researchers for open access publication. PLOS has now started five new journals:
- PLOS Climate
- PLOS Digital Health
- PLOS Global Public Health
- PLOS Sustainability and Transformation
- PLOS Water.
PLOS adds five titles to its offering of open access journals.

The open access Public Library of Science (PLOS) publishing house has started five new journals. The University recently signed a new publication agreement with PLOS, which means that researchers can publish in PLOS without paying a publication fee.
