“This is an area of the utmost relevance to the future of a democratic society, and one in which Uppsala University has outstanding research. We want to continue to support the centre and at the same time enhance its development potential by making some clarifications concerning its organisation and mandate,” says Tora Holmberg, Vice-Rector and Chair of the Disciplinary Domain of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The evaluation of the centre’s development since its launch revealed both successes and areas for development. CEMFOR has established national and international networks, become a recognised actor in the field of racism research and managed to obtain external financing for various research projects. Areas that would benefit from development primarily concerned organisation and governance, as well as CEMFOR’s mandate to be a focal point for the University’s research in the field.

“The coordinating mandate needs to be broadened to include more of the research pursued at the University, and the organisation and governance could be more effective. These measures, combined with continued support, give CEMFOR good prospects of continued development,” says Holmberg.
