This is a new agreement in two parts offered by PLOS, and Uppsala University is the first European university to get on board.

PLOS was established nearly 20 years ago, after a hugely successful open letter in the research community that called for open access in scholarly communication. Throughout its history, PLOS has been a trailblazer in the open science movement, pioneering not only open access publishing but also open data, open peer review and reproducibility. As a publisher, they stand out as a high quality, ethical and transparent alternative to the traditional publishers.

At Uppsala University, PLOS ONE was the most commonly used journal in Medicine for the period 2017-2019, while also being in the top three for the same period in Biology. Now, our researchers can continue to publish in PLOS without having to worry about individual publishing fees
