Employability rehabilitation
Services focused on work adaptations and rehabilitation of professional life
When an employee takes sick leave, rehabilitation measures should be implemented as soon as possible to enable the employee’s early return to their normal duties. The occupational health service coordinates rehabilitation measures through a rehabilitation coordinator if necessary. The head of department/equivalent or HR contacts the occupational health service to book a telephone appointment with the rehabilitation coordinator before the rehabilitation case is opened. The head of department/equivalent and/or HR participates in the subsequent rehabilitation/coordination meetings.
The following initiatives may be useful in the rehabilitation process:
- Advice to the relevant manager/HR
- Individual visits to a relevant area
- Rehabilitation coordination
- Investigation/assessment and support in cases of high-risk substance use, harmful substance use and addiction (specified below)
- Counselling support with a behavioural scientist or psychologist
- Support where needed in adapting working conditions for cases of neuropsychiatric and psychiatric diagnoses
- Coordination and follow-up as agreed with the relevant manager/HR
- Coordination meetings in which Försäkringskassan and any healthcare providers can take part where necessary
- Tests
The following initiatives may be useful in investigating/assessing and offering support in cases of high-risk substance use, harmful substance use and addiction:
- Dialogue about a case with the relevant manager/HR together with advice and support during the process
- Individual visits to a relevant area
- Investigation and assessment of high-risk substance use, harmful use and addiction, e.g. alcohol, medication or gambling, and the level of gravity. The investigation/assessment should contain proposals for appropriate measures.
- Testing (alcohol and drugs test). The HR Division should always be consulted before this initiative is taken.
- Counselling support with a behavioural scientist, psychologist or other qualified provider
- First-day certificate issued by an occupational health physician
- Pharmaceutical therapy, where necessary and following a dialogue with the relevant manager/HR
- Coordination and follow-up as agreed with the relevant manager/HR

The services below should only be used in special cases. The HR Division should always be consulted before these initiatives are taken.
- Assessment of fitness to work including written feedback to the ordering party
- First-day certificate issued by an occupational health physician
