Seminarier och workshops hösten 2021
Academic productivity (for post docs) 21 September, 9.00–12.00 (in English)
This workshop provides you with a toolbox for increased academic productivity as a post doc. The background to this workshop is that we often focus on the content of our work but sometimes forget to pay attention to our own work process or how we work, think and act. However, the process is central in order to complete our work on time and feel well during the process. More specifically, you will learn three academic productivity tools; the 80/20 principle, end product focus and the unit method, and apply them to your own work situation. Exploring the world outside academia, 1 October 9.00-11.00 (online, in English)
Have you thought about leaving academia but not sure where to start and or how it will be once, and if, you do leave? In this seminar you will meet Holly Guthrey who has made the journey of transitioning from academia to the public sector and has learned a great deal about how to do this successfully along the way. After working as a researcher at Uppsala University for seven years, Holly recently decided to leave academia to discover what lies beyond the university walls. She will discuss what lead to her decision to pursue another career path, advice based on her experiences with job coaching and applying for non-academic positions and what it feels like to leave your research behind. She will further reflect on what work life is like outside academia in her new position at the newly launched Uppsala International Hub initiative that aims to support newly arrived international talents and their partners/families settling in Uppsala.
