Active Learning Classroom
Active learning classrooms (ALCs) are spaces that enable teaching activities that can be challenging and/or unsuitable in traditional lecture halls or a classroom with front-facing furniture. They often have round tables or furniture on wheels, plus technical equipment and enough space for the teacher or students to move around freely.
Active learning has its roots in constructivists theories and promotes teaching methods where students take an active role in the learning process through collaborative activities and peer-to-peer interactions. An ALC works well for group work and peer learning.
At Uppsala University an ALC classroom is available at the Ångström lab, room 6K1113.

More information
Uppsala faculty have been inspired by, i.a., the ALC methods, developed at the University of Minnesota - to learn more see Teaching in an Active Learning Classroom.
Educational developers at Uppsala University can provide support and help through consultation, supervision and courses. If you wish to discuss the possibilities, offered by the ALC classroom, please send a request for a meeting to: kvalitetsutveckling@uu.se.
