The Royal Society of Sciences at Uppsala was founded in 1710 and is Sweden’s oldest scientific academy. It supports top quality Swedish research by presenting prizes and awards to deserving researchers.

This year, four researchers at Uppsala University are recognised with the Thuréus Prize, each receiving a sum of SEK 75,000.

The prizewinners with award citations:

  • Giuliano di Baldassarre, Professor of Hydrology, for his study of floods, in particular the complex relationship between water flows, population dynamics and susceptibility.
  • Lynn Kamerlin, Professor of Biology, in particular Structural Biology, for her successful studies of cause and effect between structure and reaction mechanisms, as well as substrate specificity, in biochemical enzymes.
  • Håkan Andersson, Professor of Civil Law, for exceptionally meritorious and comprehensive writings in jurisprudence, in particular his monumental trilogy in the field of tort law.
  • David Black-Schaffer, Professor of Computer Sciences, for his successful research in the field of computer architecture.
