STUDY ON MANAGEMENT OF RESEARCH DATA

The Vice-Chancellor has adopted terms of reference for a study on the management of research data (UFV 2022/389). Professor Hans Karlsson of the Department of Information Technology has been appointed to conduct the study, which has two purposes: firstly, to establish how Uppsala University can provide support to researchers and fulfil the requirements associated with the management and archiving of research data; and secondly, to propose organisational solutions for meeting these needs while taking Swedish and international processes for the management of research data into account. SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE TO UKRAINIAN ACADEMICS

Uppsala University intends to award scholarships to a total value of SEK 3 million to scholars who have fled from Ukraine (news article in Swedish) (UFV-PA 2022/1182). The funding will provide 20 scholarships worth SEK 150,000 each, for stays of five months at Uppsala University. Scholarships are only available to individuals covered by the Temporary Protection Directive, which offers temporary protection in EU Member States to Ukrainian nationals displaced from Ukraine on or after 24 February 2022. Recipients must also have a doctorate. The host department stands for indirect costs and the head of department/equivalent is responsible for the application to the Human Resources Division. VICE-CHANCELLOR’S SUMMARY OF THE YEAR’S EVALUATIONS

The Vice-Chancellor has adopted a report summarising the year’s evaluations (UFV 2021/2736). The report covers the Swedish Higher Education Authority’s audit of the quality assurance system for education, programme evaluations completed in 2020–2021 in line with the University’s model for programme evaluations, and follow-up of actions implemented in 2020–2021 in response to Quality and Renewal (Q&R17). SUSTAINABILITY PROJECT: STEERING COMMITTEE AND PROJECT MANAGER SELECTED

The Vice-Chancellor has initiated a University-wide project on research and education that contributes to sustainable development (UFV 2021/2903). The aim is to strengthen and foreground activities in this area so as to make better use of breadth and multidisciplinary potential. Vice-Rector Tora Holmberg has been selected to chair the steering committee. Professor Joëlle Rüegg, Department of Organismal Biology, has been appointed project manager for the University’s sustainability project. The project will conclude in December 2022. WEB PLATFORM PROJECT: DEVELOPMENT OF STAFF PORTAL

The Communications Division has a mandate from the University Director to replace the University’s web publishing tools. Sub-project 1 involved a new student gateway https://www2.uu.se/student/. Sub-project 2, which is now in progress, concerns the Staff Portal and sub-project 3 the external website. HEAD OF DEPARTMENT NEEDED FOR DEPARTMENT OF LINGUISTICS AND PHILOLOGY

The Department of Linguistics and Philology is looking for a new head of department and welcomes expressions of interest from inside and outside the department. The department offers education at undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral level. It currently has around 100 employees and approximately 1,800 active students. To be eligible for the role, applicants must be academically qualified and permanently employed at Uppsala University. In addition, documented administrative skills and experience of leadership are important. The role of head of department is equivalent to between 50 and 100 per cent of full-time employment and is for three years, with possible extension. PHISHING ALERT

The University is currently experiencing a spate of phishing emails stating donations for Ukraine as the topic. Some of these emails include QR codes and appear to have been sent by colleagues at Uppsala University. Do not reply! 30 APRIL (VALBORG): VICE-CHANCELLOR WILL TAKE PART IN RUNNING OF THE FALLS – AND PLAY DRUMS

This year, 30 April celebrations return to Uppsala after a two-year hiatus because of the pandemic. One new attraction this year is that Vice-Chancellor Anders Hagfeldt will be participating in the Running of the Falls in his own raft, in competition with around a hundred creatively designed craft. On top of that, the Vice-Chancellor will be playing drums with his band one of the evenings of the festivities. Read more about 30 April (Valborg) in Uppsala.
