OVERHAUL OF MODEL FOR REVIEW OF STUDY PROGRAMMES

The Vice-Chancellor has approved terms of reference for an overhaul of Uppsala University’s model for review of study programmes (UFV 2021/2434). The aim is to overhaul the guidelines before the next evaluation cycle in 2023–2028, in light of firstly, the comments received in the 2020 midway follow-up of the model (UFV 2015/475); and secondly, the results of the Swedish Higher Education Authority’s audit of Uppsala University’s quality assurance system for education (UFV 2019/2057). Uppsala University received the overall assessment “approved quality assurance processes”. However, the assessment panel’s opinion contains some recommendations with reference to the University’s model for review of study programmes. HEADS OF DEPARTMENT OFFERED TRAINING IN NEW REHABILITATION SYSTEM

A new rehabilitation system, Adato, will be launched on 1 December. In this connection, two training sessions will be offered (25 November and 8 December) for heads of department/equivalent in cooperation with the supplier, who will deliver the training sessions online via Zoom. The training sessions are intended for heads of department and other managers with a delegated responsibility for the work environment.

TEST NEW PRESENTATION OF GENDER EQUALITY INDICATORS 

The University’s gender equality indicators have been revamped and revised. The Planning Division has produced proposals for new indicators and new ways of presenting the original indicators. Before they are made available to all members of staff, they need to be tested. Are you interested in testing them? Contact louise.kennerberg@uu.se who will arrange authorisation and access to the indicators until mid-November at the latest.

WORK ENVIRONMENT ROUND FOR THE ORGANIZATIONAL AND SOCIAL WORK ENVIRONMENT 

The HR Division has developed a work environment round (arbetsmiljörond) for the organizational and social work environment (information in Swedish). The work environment round, which is to be part of the local systematic work environment work, is a way of investigating and developing the organizational and social aspects of the work environment.

MEETING ON GRADUATE SCHOOL IN MEDICAL HUMANITIES

The Vice-Chancellor has decided to commit strategic funding to a graduate school in medical humanities in 2022–2026 (UFV 2021/2237). The graduate school will have five doctoral students from the disciplinary domains of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Medicine and Pharmacy. Funding can be applied for by interdisciplinary constellations of supervisors employed in the two disciplinary domains. CONTINUED FUNDING FOR WOMHER

The Vice-Chancellor has approved co-financing of WoMHeR for the period 2021–2024 (UFV 2021/1318). The University Board established WoMHeR (the Centre for Women’s Mental Health during the Reproductive Lifespan) in December 2019, with the overall goal of developing evidence-based knowledge for future strategic decisions in working life and society. All three disciplinary domains contribute towards the financing of the Centre.

FRAUD, MUSIC AND FREEDOM OF RESEARCH TOPICS FOR SEMINAR

A seminar will be held on 3 November in the University Main Building to mark the 80th birthday of former Vice-Chancellor Bo Sundqvist. The discussions will fall into three sections with brief introductions by Bo Sundqvist. Each topic will be presented by a main speaker, who will then engage in discussion with respondents. The headings for the three parts of the seminar are “How should we deal with researchers who commit fraud?”, “Uppsala University and musical performance” and “The freedom of research: rhetoric and reality”.

ANNA SINGER TO LEAD ADOPTION INQUIRY

The Swedish government has appointed Anna Singer, Professor of Civil Law and Dean at the Faculty of Law, to chair an inquiry into the possible occurrence of irregularities in intercountry adoptions to Sweden.

UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION ACQUIRES NEW EMAIL DOMAIN

On 27 October all staff in the University Administration changed email domain from firstname.lastname@uadm.uu.se to firstname.lastname@uu.se. Organisational addresses will change at a later stage.

RESEARCH MAGAZINE OUT NOW

Uppsala University Magazine comes out once a year and presents research, innovation, people and life at the University. The Magazine is produced by the Communications Division and has a print run of around 15,000 copies. The Magazine for the 2021–2022 academic year has now been distributed to decision-makers in various sectors of society and to the University’s employees. You can also read the Magazine online.
