A few years ago, Egmont, which publishes Donald Duck in Sweden, started to publish adventure comics in which the Ducks visit cities in Sweden. Readers vote on which city they are to visit. They have previously been to Gothenburg and Kalmar and now it is Uppsala’s turn.

No 46 of the comic Donald Duck & Co. contains the adventure “A trip for a recipe”, a story that largely takes place in Gustavianum, the Uppsala University Museum. In their quest for the elixir, Donald Duck and his nephews also pass by the University Library, Carolina Rediviva.

Moreover, the publishers have produced a plan of the city of Uppsala, or Tuppsala*, as it has been renamed in Duckburgish, in the usual way. Some familiar places in Uppsala have been similarly renamed: Fårmagen, Blåänderna, Flugsta, Stekspaden, Flåsenhus and Bror Kanins trädgård (Br’er Rabbit’s Garden).

Needless to say, the student nations have not escaped unscathed, but have all been renamed. How about Vedelda station, Sötgröta portion or Glenn’s saloon, for example?

* The Swedish word ‘tupp’ means ‘cock’, or ‘rooster’.
