The purpose of the fund is to support research, or other qualified development work, that promotes the long-term development of knowledge about health and medical care in developing countries at Uppsala University. The fund provides grants for travel, publication of scientific reports, collection of research materials and salary for a limited time.

Your project must be directly related to health care in a developing country. Before the funds granted are paid out, the research project must be tested in accordance with the Swedish ethical review act (Etikprövningslagen, 2003: 460), and, as applicant researcher, you must declare yourself willing to follow any conditions or advice.

Your application should be for 1 year and include

  • Up to five A4 pages
  • A brief description of the research project
  • A concrete account of how the research funds will be used
  • The location of any analysis
  • A detailed cost plan, including overhead and any other sources of funding
  • A short CV including a list of publications
  • Research supervisors (if the application concerns the activities of a PhD or master’s student, the principal supervisor must be the applicant).

If the grants are financing a sub-project, the total cost of the entire project should be stated in the application. If previous grants have been paid out, you must enclose a performance report with your application, including a financial statement.

  • Generally, courses at Uppsala University’s undergraduate programme are not supported
  • The fund does not pay for equipment costs
  • Support is preferably given as a start-up grant
