First ENLIGHT Teacher and Learning Conference
Contributions welcome!
The first ENLIGHT Teaching and Learning Conference will be hosted by Ghent University on November 18th and 19th, 2021. The conference theme is Learning from and with each other – peer learning across all levels of the university. The theme of peer learning refers to the educational method used in courses and programmes and to learning from each other during and after the conference.
We invite teachers, students, educational developers and administrative staff from ENLIGHT universities to share their experiences and ideas on how to connect the ENLIGHT educational goals and concepts with teaching and learning practice.
General conference information as aims and target groups are on the ENLIGHT website.
Connection to the focusses of ENLIGHT: Conference tracks
The conferences’ theme acts as an umbrella for the conference tracks which are related to actions in the ENLIGHT project. For all tracks we are looking for contributions that showcase active student participation because students are at the very heart of the ENLIGHT mission. Active student participation can have different forms: from students as co-designers to students as co-teachers, even co-contributors or co-presenters during the conference.
- Track 1: Educational Quality Approach highlights existing good-practices in educational quality approaches within the ENLIGHT-network. The focus lies on internal, educational quality assurance at institutional, faculty and/or programme level.
- Track 2: Challenge-based Education provides a forum for good-practices in challenge-based or problem-based and interdisciplinary teaching and learning.
- Track 3: Generic Competencies and Global Engagement is about fostering generic competences and global engagement among students. This track focuses on strategies for coping with multilingualism within cross border education and on peer learning.
- Track 4: Seamless, Inclusive, Green Mobility and Tools for Flexible Learning shares and discusses best-practices on creating an open educational space by diminishing barriers for students and teachers.
- Track 5: Structural Dialogue with Local Stakeholders invites presenters with experience in embedding complex and authentic challenges in teaching and learning, and specifically in dialogue with local stakeholders such as governments, industries, research centres, civil society and NGOs.
One conference and a variety of formats
The teaching and learning conference is about open discussions and relates to the three objectives of the conference series: share ideas, co-create innovations, and building a collaborative knowledge base. We welcome proposals in any of the following interactive formats:
- Interactive Workshop (45’) actively engage the participants to work (together) with your ideas and learn from your experiences.
- Community Group Session (45’) grounded in a pre-structured discussion design.
- Short Presentation Session (15’/presentation) in which two different, related contributions are presented followed by a Q&A. Every contribution has a 15’ timeslot.
We want to organize a fully on-campus conference. Presenters who want to provide a hybrid session (i.e. if your contribution can be opened up for an online audience during your on campus session, e.g. via streaming or an online discussion), can indicate this in the submission. We will get in touch after the approval of the proposals.
Selection and criteria
We're looking forward to your proposal. All proposals will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Topic relevance: Does your topic align with one or more of the conference tracks?
- Session format and outcomes: Does your proposal include a session format and session outcomes related to the aims of the conference?
- Active student participation: Does your proposal include a description on how the students’ perspective is brought into your good practice?
These criteria will help us to decide, which contributions align best to the conference theme, to a specific track, and to other contributions. The criteria help the ENLIGHT reviewers to point out important aspects, missing information, or needed clarification. The review process is the first step in sharing ideas and start discussions. Feedback will be shared once the review process is finished.
