Distance teaching
Is your visiting this page due to the Corona virus situation and a wish to prepare for a potential move from campus-based to online teaching? Then, you are recommended to go to the page Coronavirus: move your teaching online.
Distance teaching can effectively meet the demands that society places on higher education regarding flexibility and continuous learning.
Today the student body has a broader base in terms of social background, learning styles and previous knowledge than it did ten years ago.
Being a distance teacher – the role of the teacher is changing
In distance studies the role of the teacher is more that of facilitator. The classic lecture situation where teachers and students communicate directly is to a large extent replaced by more indirect communication, with submitted texts, contributions to discussion forums, recordings, etc. that the teacher reviews and provides feeback on.
Contrary to what many people think, however, active meetings between teachers and students are not something that can only achieved in physical space – many teachers swear that they have never had such critically thinking students and such good contact with their students as in Web courses!
