Research
Areas of expertise include the causes of peace; the dynamics of peace processes, peacebuilding and transitional justice; and the causes and consequences of electoral violence. I currently direct two research projects: Urban-rural dynamics of community-based conflict management (Formas), and Alliances of Anarchy: Actor Constellations and Patterns of Electoral Violence (VR). I am also involved in two collaborative projects: "Vulnerable Cities: Conflict Prevention in Urban Planning, Urban Regeneration & Urban Governance" and "The Urban Dilemma: Urbanization and Ethnocommunal Conflict."
I recently concluded two projects: The Institutional Roots of Electoral Violence and "The Causes of Peace."
