Dr. Kyungmee Kim is a researcher at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research focusing on the intersection of climate change and insecurity, examining how climate resilience building can mitigate the risk of conflict and fragility. She is also associated researcher with the Research School for International Water Cooperation, housed within the UNESCO Center for Water Cooperation and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute's Climate Change and Risk Programme.

Biography

Dr. Kyungmee Kim is a researcher at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research. Her current research focuses on the intersection of climate change and insecurity, examining how climate resilience building can mitigate the risk of conflict and fragility. Kyungmee’s research also encompasses transboundary water conflict and cooperation, environmental peacebuilding, and the role of technology in environmental policy.

In 2021, she earned her PhD in Peace and Conflict Research from Uppsala University with her dissertation titled ‘Civil Resistance in the Shadow of War: Explaining Popular Mobilization against Dams in Myanmar’. She is affiliated with the Research School for International Water Cooperation, housed within the UNESCO Center for Water Cooperation. Additionally, Kyungmee serves as an Associate Researcher at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute's Climate Change and Risk Programme.

With ample policy experience, Kyungmee has contributed as a lead author to policy reports commissioned by the European Union, World Bank, and UN Development Programme.
