This year´s Conferment Ceremony will be different
This year's Spring Conferment Ceremony, which was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, will be held on 13th of November – corona-proof. The ceremony will take place in three rounds – all on the same day and all streamed in real time.
Apply to Mentor4Research 2021
The last day to apply for Mentor4Research 2021 is approaching. The programme provides PhD students and researchers from all subject areas the opportunity to partner with a mentor from outside of academia and develop a broader network both within and outside the university. Apply no later than 15 October.
No update of Zoom!
There will be no update of the meeting platform Zoom today, as was urgently announced last Friday. Based on the feedback that Zoom has received, not least regarding the short set-up time, the update will be postponed until November.
Positive response to online education
More than half the students answering the survey think online education during the spring worked “to a high degree” or “to a very high degree”. Many think the switch worked out better than expected and would be happy to see more online education in future. These findings emerge from a qualitative analysis of the open response questions.

Congratulations to Johan Tysk, who has been entrusted with the post of vice-rector for the Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology for another term, from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2023.
Budgetram för forskning och utbildning presenterades
Idag presenterade regeringen budgeten i sin helhet. Ökningen av studieplatser var aviserad sedan tidigare men det tillkommer 79 miljoner kronor för nya tillfälliga utbildningsuppdrag. Satsningarna inom forskningen kommer att presenteras i detalj i forskningspropositionen senare i höst.
Zoom being used for education and outreach as well as collaboration
UppTalk Weekly is a series of education and outreach seminars via Zoom that has been started in part due to the pandemic. The initiative came from the Faculty of Science and Technology, but its remit is broad and covers research from all over the University. On 29 September, take the opportunity to listen to UppTalk Weekly on how the work environment is being affected by new technology.

Chair of research infrastructure inquiry visits the University
Tobias Krantz, appointed by the government to chair the inquiry on research infrastructure, visited Uppsala University on Tuesday. The afternoon featured a visit to the Ångström Laboratory and participation in a Vice-Chancellor’s seminar.
Vice-rector Mats Larhed: What we do now will shape our disciplinary domain for many years to come
After nine years as deputy Vice-rector, Mats Larhed takes the next step. The To-do list is extensive and 5-6 October, he will gather the disciplinary domain staff and students for Vision: Medfarm. An initiative that will point out a mutual direction forward.

Uppsala University is a Member of Scholars at Risk, which works to assist vulnerable scholars. Right now, your department can register its interest in providing a sanctuary position to a scholar who, for a variety of reasons, cannot do research in their home country.

Inside the new building at Ångström Laboratory
About two years have now passed since turning the first sod for the expansion of the Ångström Laboratory in what is the largest construction project in the history of the University. We have been allowed in to the construction site for the new building 10 by the entrance to Ångström Laboratory.
Triplets – a new model for continuing professional development
The Study Counsellors and Career Office will start a new type of continuing professional development (CPD) for study counsellors this autumn using a new model they have developed. The model, which is called Triplets, can also be used in other areas of skills development.
