There has been a lot of information about COVID-19 this past year. As early as the beginning of March, an information page was created on the Staff Portal to provide continuous updates of COVID-19 information – decisions, guidelines, recommendations FAQs, news, etc. about the pandemic.

This page served as an information anchor throughout the year and was extremely well visited. In the first month alone (up to 30 March 2020), the page had 32,539 unique views.

For example, when coronavirus information to heads of department and managers was published on 3 March, it had 3,382 unique views that day.

The Staff Portal posted a notice of the first confirmed case of coronavirus at the Faculty of Pharmacy on 6 March, and published news of the second confirmed case at Uppsala University on 9 March. This news was read by 2,297 employees.

On 11 March, the Staff Portal wrote about new guidelines for conferences and visits to Uppsala University, a news item opened by 3,083 visitors.

However, the news item published on 17 March topped the statistics. This item, which announced the decision that Uppsala University would switch to distance learning starting 18 March, had 18,337 unique visitors to the page.

Over the past year (2020), the editorial staff of the Staff Portal published a total of 128 news items on the coronavirus page. Most of these were also published on the start page of the Staff Portal, but a number only ended up in the newsfeed under the Teach tab, aimed at those who teach.

All coronavirus-related news on the Staff Portal had between 2,000 and 3,000 unique visitors in the spring. However, this figure decreased to about 1,500 unique views per news item in the autumn.
The “COVID-19 report”, published every Friday, has a high reading value as it provides current information from the coronavirus coordinator and Region Uppsala/Region Gotland.

Coronavirus-related news aside, there were only three news items that made the “Top 20 List” for 2020 that were not related to COVID-19.

20 May: Three candidates for Vice-Chancellor called for interview – 2,243 unique views.

2 November: New certificate for Eduroam – 2,124 views.

16 November: Donald Duck goes to Uppsala – 1,793 views. This article discusses an issue of the comic in which Donald Duck and his nephews travel to Uppsala in search of the recipe for an elixir of youth. A little uplifting reading that may be needed to break up all this seriousness.
