On 30 March, the Vice-Chancellor decided that a working group should formulate goals aimed at improving quality and propose a method for a future evaluation of research entitled “Quality and Renewal 2023" (KoF23). Three self-initiated evaluations of the research at Uppsala University have been conducted previously. They have all been named “Quality and Renewal” and were carried out in 2007, 2011 and 2017.

The working group’s task includes gathering experiences of these previous evaluations and opinions on how to design a future evaluation. The project brief provides examples of questions that could guide the work. Here are some of the questions from the project brief:

  • What experiences can be gathered from the implementations of previous evaluations of the research?
  • What do we mainly want to achieve with this evaluation?
  • How can it stimulate discussions about our visions and strategies?
  • What are the evaluation units?
  • Should rating scales/opinions be used?
  • What should be university-wide and what should be faculty-specific?

The working group is to submit interim reports to the University Management Council during autumn 2021 and then forward its proposal to the Vice-Chancellor in January 2022.

The working group includes two researchers from each disciplinary domain, students, officers from the three disciplinary domain Offices and experts from the Quality and Evaluation unit. At the time of writing, not all members of the working group have been appointed, but the secretary of the group is Camilla Maandi, Head of the Quality and Evaluation unit.
