Uppsala University is Sweden’s most active university in Erasmus+ and in 2019 was named Erasmus+ Actor of the Year for its systematic and successful efforts to promote student mobility through Erasmus+. As a result of these promotion efforts, there is no other higher education institution in Sweden that offers students, teachers and administrative staff such good opportunities for grant-funded exchanges or placements as Uppsala University.

A global classroom is vitally important for Uppsala University’s continued ability to conduct world-class education and research – a classroom in which students and teachers with diverse backgrounds contribute their different perspectives. It is therefore very pleasing that Uppsala University’s successful efforts in Erasmus+ also mean that the University can offer a large number of scholarships each year to students outside Europe who could not otherwise afford to study at Uppsala University.

Moreover, Uppsala University participates in a large number of Erasmus+ cooperation and capacity-building projects. These projects are conducted in collaboration with departments and units at the University. One example is Skillmill, where teachers from the Department of Game Design are working with study advisers to develop an app designed to help students identify ‘soft skills’ that they have developed during their exchange studies. Another example is Eastem, where teachers from the Department of Information Technology are contributing expertise to help develop concepts around student-centred STEM education at higher education institutions in South-East Asia. Yet another example is LISTO, which focuses on innovation and entrepreneurship, and includes the objective of a manual for developing international virtual classrooms and exchanges.
