To provide support and minimise problems in the event of an incident, the university has a structured system for how to deal with serious situations of varying degrees of urgency. Please now read through how to call for support and assistance in emergency situations or difficult situations in the event of an accident.

The first question will always be whether you need urgent assistance from the emergency services, ambulance or police. If yes, start by calling the SOS Alarm emergency number, 112. Then try to call the university's alarm telephone number, 018-471 25 00, as soon as possible.

"If 112 is alerted to an incident at Uppsala University, it is essential that the campus security guards are also given the opportunity to be on-site. In some cases, the campus security guards may be first on site and assist in a difficult situation", says Jenny Ferngren, Head of unit physical security and safety at the University Administration.

The campus security guards can assist in the contact with an ambulance, emergency services and police.

"For example, the campus security guards can assist in cases of acute illness, they know their way around our premises and can give the right directions to the ambulance and help in other ways. What is important is that you do not need to be alone in difficult situations."

Support around the clock, all year round

You can also use the university's alarm telephone number to contact the standby duty officer (Tib) who is also on duty around the clock, all year round.

"We want you to contact the standby duty officer in the event of serious incidents in order for him/her to be given the opportunity to assess the need for additional support at the affected location."

For example, serious incidents may be:

  • personal injury, or damage to the environment or property
  • crimes in progress, such as theft, vandalism or violence
  • damage to the good reputation and image of university or the informant's own activity
  • impact on the function of the university or the informant's own activity
  • Then contact your immediate manager at the earliest appropriate time.

When you do not urgently need assistance from the emergency services, ambulance or police, you should instead call the university's alarm telephone number, 018-471 25 00, without delay. If it is necessary for your immediate manager to know about the incident, contact him/her at the earliest appropriate time.

"The campus security guards can be contacted via the university's alarm telephone number and are always on duty. Among other things, they can assist with unauthorised persons on campus, opening locks, and difficult or threatening situations."
