Yesterday (Tuesday) the chief safety representative in campus management area 2 at Uppsala University announced a ‘safety representative stoppage’ for cleaning staff, as they were considered to lack adequate possibilities to avoid COVID-19 infection given the current infection situation. The chief safety representative urged staff not to come to work.

On Wednesday morning, negotiations were held with employer representatives, but the talks ended without agreement. Consequently, the matter was forwarded today to the Swedish Work Environment Authority for a decision. This authority decides whether to cancel or extend a safety stoppage.

At 12:05, the Swedish Work Environment Authority ruled on the issue of the ongoing safety representative stoppage. The authority decided to cancel the ongoing stoppage completely with immediate effect. The cleaning staff will return to their regular duties tomorrow, 18 March.

What changes do you plan for the cleaning staff who are returning to work tomorrow?

“The employer will ensure that the oral instructions for the cleaning staff are put into writing. And we will step up the work on risk assessments that we do jointly with the workplace safety organisation, taking the development of the COVID-19 situation into account,” says Eliane Forsse, HR Director.
