The basis of this plan is that it is difficult for the faculty boards to effectively exercise full responsibility when it comes to matters of buildings and facilities. The departments in the disciplinary domain are located across four campuses and the buildings and facilities they occupy also shared between faculties. Nevertheless, financial responsibility always lies with the departments. At the highest level therefore, responsibility for buildings and facilities is assessed as being best handled through dialogue between the disciplinary domain board and the departments via the campus boards.

The buildings and facilities plan contains a number of principles and guidelines. Here are some of the more important ones in brief:

  • The fundamental considerations when expanding are sustainable development and minimising climate impact.
  • In the first instance, expansion should be within existing buildings and facilities and, if this is not possible, within the city centre.
  • Booking spaces should not be centralised, but there should be more coordination of space utilisation between the departments within and outside the disciplinary domain.
  • Utilising University House more for teaching is desirable.
  • A thorough investigation of the matter of examination rooms post the pandemic is needed for the whole University.
  • There is a need to define the faculty’s aims regarding the quantity and quality of the facilities and staff needed for the digitalisation of teaching.

Drafting committee for buildings and facilities planning

In connection with the decision to adopt the buildings and facilities plan, the Disciplinary Domain Board also decided to establish a drafting committee for buildings and facilities planning matters. This group will:

  • follow up on central and common matters pertaining to buildings and facilities planning
  • regularly monitor the information specified in the buildings and facilities plan for the disciplinary domain
  • draft an annual follow-up and revision of the nine-year buildings and facilities plan.

The drafting committee includes the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the chairs of each of the campus boards within the disciplinary domain, the administrative director and one student.
