The start was challenging because of the corona pandemic, which affected us all to the core. But of course, the stewardship was in place, “business as usual”. That is exactly what Campus Management at the Rudbeck Laboratory is all about: service first and foremost and availability for the benefit of the operations.

Important link with a unique breadth

The Rudbeck Laboratory has a unique breadth, ranging from the hospital’s clinical activities to preclinical research at the highest international level in vascular biology, cancer, dementia, endocrinology, haematology, immunology, rheumatology, women’s and children’s diseases, and more. The challenge here is to adapt the campus management to the different needs of these activities, which share the same space.

The clinical departments at the Rudbeck Laboratory are a critical link between the hospital and the university, focusing on both patients and research. Undergraduate students are a small group at the Rudbeck Laboratory, but their numbers increase periodically, and this sometimes puts the building to the test.

Adapted facilities

The Rudbeck Laboratory offers a modern lounge for students and seminar rooms with on-demand booking. The landlord of the Rudbeck Laboratory is Fastighet och service Region Uppsala (Facilities and Services Region Uppsala), and this link with the hospital has opened up the opportunity to do something for the students. Together with Matts Olovssons, Vice-Dean for Education at the Faculty of Medicine and Senior Consultant at the women’s clinic at Uppsala University Hospital, and the Buildings Division, a room for quiet reading will be set up at the hospital.

There is a great need for reading spaces for students studying at the hospital. I am looking forward to this room being started in the spring. It may seem like just a room, but I see it as a clarified link between the Rudbeck Laboratory, the hospital, and the training of future healthcare professionals.

Thank you for ten excellent years

In conclusion, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the campus manager Annemarie Ljungberg for ten excellent years and for all the outstanding work she has done for the Rudbeck Laboratory together with the campus management. She is now retiring for new adventures south in Europe. I welcome our new campus manager Henrik Ortsäter who has many years of experience from the university, management and service functions focusing at bringing research forward. I, and the campus management, are confident that Henrik will be a great person to carry on Annemarie’s legacy with a focus on service while creating something new for the Rudbeck Laboratory. I can hardly wait for the future!
