Suicide is a serious public health issue and work with suicide prevention has recently gained more and more attention. But to be able to influence developments in the right direction, preventive efforts must be intensified. This requires improved coordination and collaboration at all levels of the community.

Uppsala University participates in the Uppsala County Administrative Board’s Råd för social hållbarhet [Social Sustainability Council]. One of the most important issues for the Council is suicide prevention. Every week a person dies as a result of suicide in Uppsala County alone, and in addition there are many more suicide attempts in the county. However, suicide can be prevented and many social actors have an important role to play in this work.

National conference

On 10 September, a national online conference on suicide prevention will be held. The conference is aimed at anyone who wants to know more about suicide and suicide prevention and is particularly suitable for anyone who comes into contact with issues related to mental health and suicide prevention in their professional or not-for-profit work.

The conference is free of charge and is being organised by the Public Health Agency of Sweden, the National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention at Karolinska Institutet and Region Stockholm, along with the National Board of Health and Welfare in cooperation with a string of organisations.

Register for the conference no later than 8 September.
