The European Day of Languages has been celebrated since 2001 on the initiative of the EU and the Council of Europe. For the first time in a long time, Uppsala University is marking the day with an afternoon on 26 September.

The programme includes ten short lectures on learning and teaching different languages. This will be followed by a mini-exhibition featuring current institutions and actors in the language field.

“Our aim in celebrating the European Day of Languages is to put languages in the spotlight and to encourage more people to learn a new language. We have focused on short talks to create a programme with a pulse. You don't need to pre-register and you can attend one or more lectures”, says Charlotte Lindgren, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Education, Didactics and Educational Studies and one of the organisers of the event.
