The prize motivation is:

“Daniel Espes (DE), active at Uppsala University, produces 42 high-quality scientific articles that span many areas, such as transplantation of pancreatic islets, immunological markers and imaging of the beta-cell mass. DE is currently conducting, among other things, clinical studies aimed at curing type 1 diabetes through cell therapy and cell regenerative drugs. Research that has great potential to offer a cure for type 1 diabetes in the future.”
