Brexit – important information for UK employees
The date set for the UK to leave the EU, 29 March, is fast approaching and if no withdrawal agreement is in place by then, there will be a ‘hard’ Brexit.
The Swedish government has presented proposed regulations on transitional arrangements in the case of a hard Brexit. Under the transitional arrangements, no UK citizens will have to leave Sweden. They will be able to apply for new permits while continuing to live and work here. Read more about Brexit on the Swedish Migration Agency website. (swedish only)
UK citizens who are already employed
After 29 March, UK citizens will need to apply for a residence permit. However, under the transitional rules, no UK citizens will have to leave Sweden. They will be able to apply for a new permit while continuing to live and work in Sweden.
Starting employment after 29 March
UK citizens who begin their employment at the University after 29 March will need to apply for a work/residence permit. The exact procedures for this are still unclear. We will update the information as soon as we can.
