The Lena Wäppling Foundation works to support cancer research and also to raise the level of knowledge and awareness about ovarian cancer.

“It is very rewarding for us on the board to come and meet researchers, hear about the work and see the environments here at Uppsala University. We are keen to follow up and see what the foundation’s contribution does for good”, says Lena Wäppling, the founder of the Lena Wäppling Foundation.

Tobias Sjöblom and Stefan Enroth at the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy, received research grants in 2021. Stefan Enroth showed how his grants were used and how the funding contributed to concrete results - both in clinical research and for the benefit of patients.

“I have been able to find accurate biomarkers for early detection of genital cancer in a sample that works for home sampling. This is a method that makes it easier for women and simplifies health care. An early diagnosis of ovarian cancer provides the best opportunities for a more accurate treatment to be initiated at an early stage. Of course, it also contributes to the patients getting better conditions for a full life even after the end of treatment”, Stefan Enroth said in connection with the visit.

In addition to the Lena Wäppling Foundation’s board, the visit also included Inger Sundström Poromaa, researcher and Head of the Department at the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, and Stefan Enroth, researcher at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology. Thomas Fredengren, Development Office at Uppsala University, arranged the visit.
