Scholarships for researchers from Ukraine
In April 2022, the Vice-Chancellor decided to allocate funds for scholarships targeting researchers from Ukraine, see the attached document RS beslut UFV-PA 2022-1182 (pdf) (in Swedish). In total, funds for 20 scholarships (SEK 150,000 each), for five months visits were allocated. In September 2022, all 20 scholarships were handed out to researchers from Ukraine. In October 2022, the Vice-Chancellor decided to allocate funds for 20 additional scholarships targeting researchers from Ukraine, see attached document, RS beslut UFV 2022/2072 (pdf) (in Swedish). The purpose of these scholarships is to be able to offer researchers sanctuary and enable them to spend time in a research environment.
The Vice-Chancellor is able to award 20 new scholarships of SEK 150,000 each, where each scholarship is awarded for a short stay of five months. The scholarships are awarded following a decision and must be preceded by an application from the hosting head of department or equivalent. Applications and decisions are made as they are received.
At the moment, 6 scholarships are available for application. This information is continuously updated.
Where there are more applicants than the number of scholarships available, a selection will be made on the basis of academic qualifications, the researcher’s own reasons for applying, and reasons from the hosting department. The researcher’s own reasons for applying and description of their academic background must be written in English. Applications can be submitted for as long as the Temporary Protection Directive is in force and scholarship funds are available.
A scholarship can only be awarded to a researcher covered by the Temporary Protection Directive who holds a doctorate (Degree of Doctor) at the time of application. In order to be eligible for a scholarship, an undertaking from the head of department or equivalent to host the scholarship holder is also required, which means that the department will bear the indirect expenses incurred such as for a room, workplace, computer, etc. The undertaking also means that the department is able to provide human resources who can support the researcher in various matters.
March 14 2023, a supplementary desicion was made (Tilläggsbeslut gällande riktlinjer om stipendier för forskare från Ukraina.pdf). The supplementary desicion opens up to Ukrainian researchers who has already got an approved stipend to apply for a stipend one more time.
