The Academic Senate consists of 48 teachers nominated by the electoral assemblies of the disciplinary domains and 20 students. The Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and University Director have the right to participate in the Senate’s deliberations but not in its decisions. The electoral assemblies of the three disciplinary domains elect 15 members each and the faculty assembly of the Faculty of Educational Sciences elects 3 members. The student representatives are selected in the manner determined by the students’ unions. The teachers serve for a three-year term and the students for one year. The Vice-Chancellor appoints a president and a vice-president from among the elected members, at the proposal of the Senate.
The role of the Academic Senate, as set forth in its instructions, is to discuss and deliver opinions on:
- the formulation of goals and strategies for the University’s activities and its collaboration with the wider community
- government bills on higher education
- the University’s internal organisation
- research and education policy issues of importance for Uppsala University.
The Academic Senate has no meetings planned 2021, there are no appointed members.
