Systematic work environment management at Uppsala University
Uppsala University’s mission is to gain and disseminate knowledge for the benefit of humankind and for a better world. Our employees and students are likely the most important resource in terms of carrying out our mission. To enable them to perform as effectively as possible based on their circumstances, it is vital to have a good work environment. This is achieved by taking systematic steps and for work environment management to be a natural and integral part of activities.
Systematic work environment management is regulated by the Work Environment Act and specified in the Swedish Work Environment Authority’s provisions regarding systematic work environment management (AFS 2001:1). More information about this can be found on the website of the Swedish Work Environment Authority. Systematic work environment management covers all work environment conditions, that is, physical, social and organisational conditions. The World Health Organization (WHO) has produced a definition of the work environment, as follows: “The work environment is a comprehensive term for biological, medical, physiological, psycho-social and technical facotrs that affect individuals in a work situation or in the surroundings of the workplace."
The procedural chart, see below (image below is based on the Work Environment Authority’s procedural chart for systematic work environment management), describes the various activities and procedures linked to systematic work environment management and refers to the paragraphs in the Work Environment Authority’s provisions on systematic work environment management (AFS 2001:1).
