Postdoctoral position in global energy systems

The Department of Earth Sciences is one of the most complete such academic departments in Europe. Our research focuses on subjects that range from the Earth’s core to the atmosphere, on scales from submicroscopic structures in minerals to the formation of mountains and oceans. We have teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. Our courses offer a wide range within the geoscience area and several of the department's programs have received the highest rating in evaluations by the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education (Högskoleverket) and the Swedish Higher Education Authority (Universitetskanslersämbetet). Description of the subject area:
Natural resources and sustainable development are key components of the department's research, education and outreach activities. A new research programme in Natural Resources and Sustainable Development (NRHU) was launched in autumn 2014.

Duties: 
We are now looking fora Postdoctoral researcher that can develop our research profile in energy resources, with focus on global energy transitions with particular attention on sustainable supply and use of raw materials that are critical for green/clean energy technologies. The term 'criticality' could also be seen as an assessment of risks connected to a wide array of factors such as geological occurrences, geographical concentration of deposits or production facilities, market and regulatory structures, social issues, geopolitics, environmental aspects, recycling potential, and sustainability over the full life cycle of a certain material.

The postdoctoral position can also include teaching to a maximum of 20 % of full time. This position is fixed full-time (100%) for a duration of two years, starting as agreed upon after the application deadline.

Requirements: 
The PhD degree should have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three-year period can be extended on special circumstances, such as prolonged periods ofillness, parental leave, military service, union duties and others of similar character. The requirement for this position isa PhD in energy technology, geography, earth sciences, or equivalent competence. Good knowledge in english, both in written and spoken word, since some of the teaching and research cooperation is held in english.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral employment, the candidate must hold a PhD degree not older than three years at the closing day of the application.

Additional qualifications: good knowledge in swedish, due to teaching assistance and research cooperation, will be seen favorably but is not essential. 

Ranking criteria: 
In ranking eligible candidates, special importance will be given to scientific skills in relation to the subject area. In filling this position the University aims to recruit the person who, in the combined evaluation of competence, skills and documented qualifications, is judged most suitable to carry out and develop the work in-hand and to contribute to a positive development of the department's activities.

It should also include a concise research plan, CV, copies of relevant examination certificates, a copy of the PhD thesis (or equivalent) and publications as well as other relevant documents  (e.g. letters of recommendation or names of reference persons).
