Information for anyone who needs to work from home
If you commute to and from work
In the view of the Public Health Agency of Sweden, it remains important at the present time that public transport keeps working and those who are healthy can travel to work and school, though it is important that you stay at home if you feel unwell. However, if it is possible for you to work from home, it may be a good idea to do so, particularly if you live in the Stockholm region.
Consult your manager
Every member of staff must always consult their manager about working from home.
Technical equipment
What equipment do you need for an acceptable workplace at home? Is a laptop computer enough? Do you need a keyboard and a mouse? Discuss your needs with your line manager. Please note: Make sure you have a charger available for your laptop.
Tools for digital working and accessibility
All members of staff who are working from home are expected to be accessible by email and teleephone during office hours.
Other tools that work excellently from home:
- The meeting tool Zoom. See instructions for Zoom.
Virtual background - Zoom.
Frequently asked questions regarding Zoom. -
Skype for business. This solution is being phased out in 2020 but still works for meetings, as an alternative to Zoom. Instructions for S4B.
- Digital signature (e-signature) - legally equivalent to a regular analog signature. Instructions for digital signature.
Regarding VPN connections (virtual private network):
Most of the university's digital services and web systems - such as Zoom, Medarbetarportalen, myfiles.uu.se and InfoGlue - are fully accessible to use from home without a VPN connection, as long as you log on through the shared web login. However, some systems require a VPN connection for access outside the university premises. The most common systems are listed below. If you are not sure if you can access a digital service from home, try it first without using a VPN connection (to avoid overloading the VPN system).
Systems that require VPN for working at home:
- The eduPrint printing system
Print with eduPrint from home: connect to VPN to make your printout from your computer, then you have 72 hours to download the printout of any eduPrint printer at the university. - The Financial administration system Raindance
- The system for publishing on digital screens (Diskus)
- Administration of–and access to–certain cloud- and storage systems (eg Argos, Polacksbacken's cloud service, etc.) might require a VPN connection, especially when mounting a virtual drive.
If you have questions or are unable to connect through the VPN service, please contact servicedesk.
Uppsala University Library
Uppsala University Library keeps open for studies and research, with some altered routines. The Library has also made a significant strengthening in their digital services.
