Workshops for teachers
Would you like to learn more about how you can support your students in developing their academic language skills? The Language Workshop is offering five workshops for teachers, one of which will be in English. The workshops will be free of charge and open to all teaching staff at Uppsala University.
The workshops will be held at the English Park Campus during the autumn term 2023.
Constructive Comments (two parallel workshops, one in Swedish and one in English), 19 September, 9:15-12:00:
You will learn about the text triangle, reverse outlining, and topic sentences. During the workshop you will have the opportunity to explore concrete tools for providing constructive text commentaries on student texts. Bring a student text to the workshop! Register here no later than 12 September.
Assignment Instructions (Swedish only!), 18 October, 9:15-12:00:
You will learn about creating effective assignment instructions. During the workshop you will be presented with tools which you will have the opportunity to apply to your own instructions. Bring your own assignment instructions to the workshop! Register here no later than 12 October.
Reading Strategies (Swedish only!), 7 November, 9:15-12:00:
You will learn about academic literacies and the reading method THIEVES. During the workshop you will try out the reading method and discuss strategies for academic reading. Register here no later than 31 October.
Multilingualism (Swedish only!), 4 December, 13.15-16.00:
This workshop is offered for the first time! You will learn about second-language acquisition and how you can provide instructions and feedback to students studying in a second language. During the workshop you will analyse instructions for an assignment from a student perspective. Register here no later than 27 November.
