Guidelines for remote assessment

  • Guidelines for conduction remote written examinations at Uppsala University.

The guidelines specify responsibilities and obligations for department staff who work with remote examinations, including the handling of examination exercises and answers, as well as for examinees when taking remote written examinations.

Exception of monitoring via video service

Monitoring via video service is not permitted during remote written examinations. Exceptions may be made to a limited extent in consultation with the Data Protection Officer. If an exception for video monitoring of a remote written examination has been granted, the examinees concerned must be informed of this, with clear justification of why as well as clear information about how the recorded material will be processed.

1. Inform students at least 14 days in advance that the exam will be digital so they have time to prepare and / or acquire equipment.
2. Inform students that you will be present in the video service during the exam.

Request for exception.

Guidance for remote assessment

This document is intended for Uppsala University staff who work with student assessment. This guidance is a complement to Uppsala University’s Guidelines for conducting remote written examinations (UFV 2020/2118). The guidelines are the governing framework, while this guidance is intended to provide practical advice and guidance in both designing and conducting different forms of remote assessment, such as remote oral and written examinations as well as take-home examinations.

The term “remote written examinations” refers to written examinations that would otherwise be given in an examination room, i.e. with a limited amount of time for completion during a single day, but which are instead conducted remotely using information technology (IT). In this context “take-home examination” is used as a collective term for various summative written assignments that students may write over a longer period of time and regardless of location.
