In case of fire
If you are in the University's facilities daily you should know where the nearest emergency exits are, where the assambley point are and where the fire extinguishing equipment are. You can find all that information on the evacuation plans. The evacuation plans are usually located by the main entrance, the elevators or at the beginning of a new corridor. If you are in a new facility, make sure to look at the evacuation plan there.
Important to keep in mind is also to have knowledge about the evacuation routines at the campus area you are at, where is the reassembly point and look for the nearest emergency exit.
Evacuation is something that is strongly associated with fire, which is not always the reason for having to evacuate a building.A good thing to keep in mind is that an evacuation alarm can be triggered due to some kind of threat or other serious event.
If a fire should occur, act like following:
-
Save what/whom you can, but not with your life at risk.
-
Alert others in the building
-
Alarm call 112 from a safe place. Also call the University's emergancy number at 018-471 25 00 and tell them what happened.
-
Extinguish the fire. If you are unable to put the fire out, you can limit it and the spread by shutting doors and windows. Do not place yourself in unnecessary danger.
-
Evacuate the building.
-
Reassemble at designated location.
