Our work has an environmental impact
The University’s Objectives and Action Plan is based on an up-to-date environmental review that identifies the most substantial environmental factors, i.e. the ways in which we have the greatest impact. The purpose of the review is to survey and quantify the University’s impact on the environment.
The most recent environmental review at the University was implemented in 2016. The report stated that the areas in which the University should thereafter focus its environmental efforts are:
- research
- education
- collaboration
- energy use (from use of premises, office machines etc.)
- new construction and building conversion
- work-related travel and meetings
- procurement and purchasing.
The review finds that, through its activities, the University has major positive indirect environmental effects thanks to its education, research and collaboration. The University also has a negative direct environmental impact due to its consumption of materials and resources.
Future work will concentrate on boosting the positive indirect environmental effects and reducing the direct negative ones. Further details of the University’s environmental impact may be found in the final environmental review report (in Swedish).
