Sharp and cutting waste
Examples of sharp and cutting waste are needles, scalpels, lancets and syringes. Sharp and cutting waste should be placed in puncture-proof laboratory waste containers.
Contaminated sharp/cutting waste that may be e.g. infectious, radioactive or contain chemical residues should be handled on the basis of current contamination, read more under respective type of waste.
The laboratory waste container caps must be hermetically sealed (click sound when properly closed). Plastic bags in waste boxes must be sealed with cable ties/equivalent. Laboratory waste containers should be clean on the outside. Broken waste containers must not be used.
Laboratory waste containers for sharp and cutting waste must be marked with:
- Name and phone number of the person responsible for the waste
- Delivering department
- Sharp/cutting waste
