Skills supply
Uppsala University: Mission, Goals and Strategies emphasises that well-qualified teachers, researchers and other staff are crucial to enable the University to achieve its overall goal of conducting education and research of the highest quality and relevance.
If Uppsala University is to achieve this goal, we need to be able to attract, recruit, develop and retain staff with the required skills, and to know which factors influence members of staff to choose us as their employer. Skills supply has several distinct components, including the recruitment process, continuing professional development for members of staff and managers, and measures to make ourselves an attractive employer.
A framework has been developed to enhance the strategic discussions at all levels of the University and the sustainability of the University’s skills supply planning, together with material to support an organised approach to long-term skills supply.
A framework for long-term skills supply was approved in 2016–2017 and this has been a mandatory part of operational planning since 2017. The annual operational plans for the University, the disciplinary domains/faculties and the University Administration include a special section on skills supply, and long-term skills supply is a set point in the Vice-Chancellor’s annual dialogues with the disciplinary domains.
Disciplinary domain/faculty boards are required to submit annual proposals or statements to the Vice-Chancellor regarding their skills supply plans and the departments are involved as requested by the relevant disciplinary domain/faculty, which is responsible for establishing a process for dialogue and acquiring the input needed.
